It’s that time again… the Infinity Blend is back! Boris (@roast.cup.repeat) made sure we only included the best green samples 👌
Limited number of batches and bags available. Once they are gone, they are gone!
For those new here, this is our take on the Infinity Bottle (where small amounts of left overs from whiskey bottles are accumulated over time into a single bottle to create a unique bottle). This is a collection of numerous green coffee samples that we've received from top quality producers over the course of a year. We mixed them all together, and roasted one batch.
This year, all proceeds will go to support a charity initiative by green coffee importer Crop to Cup, to develop better infrastructure for smallholders in Ethiopia.
From Crop to Cup:
“In November of 2023, we visited the Bensa Smallholder group to discuss the upcoming harvest. We recognized that we, as buyers, had needs for additional washed coffees - and if the group could provide them, we could expand our buying. Washed coffees in Ethiopia have always been a challenge for Crop to Cup. We want to work with smallholders but, in the coop model (until recently), direct communication with the coops didn't happen - you needed to go through the unions, obstructing a genuine producer-importer relationship. If you purchased from a private washing station, you're often buying smallholder coffee but supporting a decidedly non-smallholder farmer (the owners of the station). Getting to single-producer washed coffees has not yet been possible. They (Nguisse, Melesa, Bekele(s), Mate, Basha) were into the idea. Washed coffees were the standard during the Technoserve years in the west because they delivered more value to the farmer - and were more marketable coffees. We know that there's real value in unlocking the ability of a smallholder to produce washed coffees. That same trip, we purchased and provided hand pulpers for Bekele Belacho, Mate Matiwos, and Basha Bekele and asked them to produce a washed offer for us. We received small (3-10 bag) lots of honey-processed coffee (access to water was an issue this season) and the qualities were exceptional. When asked why they didn't produce larger lots, they expressed that the hand pulper was just slow/difficult. That can be solved with small motors to power the pulpers. Going back this year, we will attempt to expand this project with additional pulpers to other producers in the group, as well as motors, so we can see an increased variety of offers as well as increased average offer/lot size from these efforts. Small farmers having access to export is happening in Ethiopia; now we're investing in the smallholders' ability to directly market and export washed offers. This is big because, in this model, the smallholders get the quality premiums for their efforts directly and individually - which can be life-changing money when compared to selling cherry to a coop or local station. It's the future - and we're looking to warp-speed it.”
