May Roastery Select

After a few months full of washed we have a pair of dry processed coffees for the fans naturals. First up is another coffee from Rio Brilhante. Following up on the Tropicana, this one continues to showcase a classic Brazil character with the crowd pleasing chocolate and nuts profile. It should be an excellent candidate for a smooth DIY cold brew to beat the heat! The second coffee is a natural from Colombia with a bit more of an adventurous profile for those who enjoy the fruity naturals.

Rio Brilhante Maracuja Natural

Located in the Pântano micro-region of Minas Gerais, Fazenda Rio Brilhante benefits from a stable climate ideal for coffee production, particularly natural processed coffees. Founded by Inácio Urban in the 1980s, the farm has expanded to 1,600 hectares. Management utilizes advanced mechanical harvesting and density sorting to ensure lot consistency, while mahogany and grevillea trees protect plants from wind and preserve biodiversity. Now managed by the second generation of the Urban family, the estate produces an average of 130,000 bags annually. Rio Brilhante is globally recognized for its commitment to sustainability and quality, holding UTZ and Rainforest Alliance certifications while earning prestigious awards for ethics and traceability. By maintaining mandatory forest reserves and innovative agricultural practices, the farm exemplifies modern, responsible agribusiness in the Cerrado Mineiro region.

La Piragua Striped Red Bourbon Natural

Alexander Vargas has spent over 20 years refining his craft at La Piragua in Huila, Colombia. Starting his journey at age 15, he transitioned to specialty coffee at 20 and has since earned multiple national Cup of Excellence nominations. His commitment to quality is absolute; he even built a dedicated coffee laboratory on the farm to cup and classify every lot.

This "Striped Red Bourbon" microlot highlights Alexander’s expertise in controlled fermentation. The cherries underwent a 60-hour anaerobic fermentation in airtight barrels before being dried for 18 days in specialized sheds. The resulting cup is complex and vibrant, offering a balanced sensorial profile that showcases both the origin character and Alexander's craftsmanship. Expect a heavy sweetness reminiscent of fruit drops, complemented by bright raspberry and deep notes of red currant and peach.
